Understand private information and account access

Learn why some details need unlocking, who account names are shared with, and what to leave out of support chat.

For everyone

These steps use the Beacon website unless the iPhone app is mentioned.

In this guide

Your account can have more than one kind of access

Beacon shows workspaces and tools according to your ministry connections and permissions. Being able to sign in does not automatically give you every leadership tool or access to another person’s profile.

Open Me to check your account and available workspaces. If something is missing, first check the email you signed in with and the ministry you are viewing. Your leader can help check a membership or invitation; Beacon support can help investigate a technical problem.

Why Beacon sometimes asks you to unlock information

Your account name and some profile answers are stored in encrypted form. When a page asks for your password to unlock them, it is opening information for use in that browser session.

A locked answer is not necessarily a missing answer. Use the unlock control on the page before entering the information again. If unlocking fails, check your password and report which screen is affected.

If you have forgotten the password, use account recovery. That process includes administrator approval to restore access to protected information.

Pay attention to where details are shared

The account-name editor explains that your name is shared with authorized coordinators in your churches. Your last name is optional. When you submit a participation request, the page may ask to use or unlock your saved name for authorized reviewers.

For sponsorship, Ministry connections in Me is where you manage where your sponsor or sponsee profile is shared. Check that section when reviewing your ministry relationships.

For serving time off, the optional reason is visible only to you. Schedulers and team leads receive the affected dates and assignment context, so they can plan around your absence.

Keep support messages focused on the problem

Message the team opens a support conversation with the Beacon team. These conversations are stored in our Suggestion Box service and are not end-to-end encrypted like protected recovery profiles. Describe the screen, the action you took, and the error you saw; leave out sensitive recovery details, passwords, and verification codes.

End this chat removes that browser’s access to the conversation. It does not delete the conversation. Contact support if you want to ask about removal, and see the Privacy page for the fuller explanation of collection, sharing, and retention.
