Get started as a sponsor
Submit your sponsor intake, keep your answers current, and respond when someone asks to connect.
For sponsors
These steps use the Beacon website unless the iPhone app is mentioned.
In this guide
Use your network’s sponsor form
Your ministry or sponsorship network can give you the right intake link or referral code. Read the introduction, choose Acknowledge & Continue, and check the network name before filling out the form.
If the questions have not loaded, enter the referral code and choose Load sponsor form. Answer the questions, choose Save sponsor profile, and wait for the completion message before closing the page.
You can choose text updates and account setup after submission. Saving an intake and being ready for matching are separate steps: your network may need to review or verify your profile first.
Keep your answers and availability current
With your profile linked to your account, open Me, choose Manage profiles, and use Edit Profile on your sponsor submission to review your questionnaire. Follow any instructions shown for required updates.
If you need a break from taking new sponsees, tell your network’s leader. Authorized leaders have Pause matching and Resume matching controls for sponsor profiles. Ask them to check your matching availability and capacity rather than submitting a fresh intake.
The availability and time-off settings used for volunteer shifts are a separate part of Beacon. Use your network’s team for changes to sponsor matching.
Review a connection request
Open Connection requests and choose View request. Read the context available to you before choosing Accept match or Decline match. A match percentage, when shown, reflects the matching information; it is not a promise about how the relationship will go.
After accepting, use Open messages when the conversation link appears and send a short introduction. Something as simple as “Hi, I’m glad we connected. What would be a good time to talk?” is enough to get started. You can share a phone number if you both want to, but Beacon does not require it.
Already sponsoring in another network?
Use Request access on the sponsor intake page instead of creating a duplicate sponsor profile. Sign in with your existing account and follow the network access steps.
Outside-network access depends on the networks’ settings and approval. If the network you want is not offered, ask your home network’s leader to check whether that connection is available.
